Volunteering with VITA is an incredibly rewarding experience unlike almost any other volunteer effort in terms of the highly skilled service you can provide to your clients and the huge benefit they receive. No experience is necessary, but completing the required steps takes advanced planning and commitment.
Each year, volunteers must undergo a series of steps outlined below to formally register with Fairfax County's Volunteer Management System, participate in training (optional but highly recommended for new volunteers), pass required IRS exams, and submit site-specific documentation to meet IRS guidelines for processing.
Now that you've passed your IRS exams, you're ready to attend new volunteer orientation, receive a tax preparer TaxSlayer Online account, and start helping our clients.
New volunteer orientation is held the last Saturday in January at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center at 10:00 a.m. prior to the site opening on Thursday.
Follow the steps in the screenshot here to submit the correctly completed volunteer agreement (IRS Form 13615) that is populated from the exam website prior to new volunteer orientation.
